To celebrate 15 incredible years of music and comedy at the Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust, the first artist has been confirmed for 2015’s line up. Teenage Cancer Trust supporter and 2013 guest curator Noel Gallagher will take to the stage on Saturday 28 March 2015.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds show will follow the release of his new album ‘Chasing Yesterday’ on Sour Mash Records on 2 March. ‘Chasing Yesterday’ is produced and written by Noel and follows the huge success of his debut album that has sold over 770,000 copies. 2015 will see Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds embark on a UK arena tour preceeding the very special show at the Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust. Special guests on the evening will be Baltimore’s Future Islands.
Noel Gallagher said: “Who'd have thought that after 15 years we'd be gearing up for another stint at the greatest venue in the world for Teenage Cancer Trust. Thanks to everyone, the bands, artists, and the comedians for all your continued support, and maximum respect to you the people for making it all possible. See you on Saturday 28th March!”
Teenage Cancer Trust patron and The Who front man, Roger Daltrey CBE, has been the driving force behind the concerts which have raised over £20 million for young people with cancer since they began in 2000. In March 2014 fans enjoyed seven magnificent SOLD OUT shows which achieved record-breaking ticket sales to support Teenage Cancer Trust’s specialsit services as well as producing unique “I was there” moments.
Roger said: "He was with us at our first show for Teenage Cancer Trust in 2000 and is now returning to the Royal Albert Hall for the seventh time. Noel has put his heart and soul into these shows over the years, curating them in 2013 and even releasing a live album for Teenage Cancer Trust. He's not only one of the best artists in the world but gives himself unconditionally. Noel has been a pivotal supporter to our mission and I'm incredibly proud both of him and the work he's done."
The music and comedy shows are Teenage Cancer Trust’s flagship annual fundraising event. From 2000 to 2014, almost 200 artists have performed at the Royal Albert Hall for the charity. That’s 86 nights or three months of consecutive shows with 450,000 fans in attendence including over 2,000 young people with cancer.
The money raised makes a massive difference to the lives of thousands of young people with cancer across the UK. As the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting teenagers and young adults with cancer, Teenage Cancer Trust relies on donations to fund a range of services that aim to improve their quality of life and chances of survival. All proceeds from the shows go towards providing this specialist care and support for young people with cancer.
For every young person with cancer Teenage Cancer Trust supports, there is another they currently cannot. This must change. The charity needs to raise at least £80 million in the next five years to help every young person with cancer in the UK have access to the specialist care they provide. The Royal Albert Hall shows will continue to play a pivotal role in achieving this ambitious goal.
