Record Breaker Kay - Officially The Biggest And Fastest Selling Stand-Up Comedian Of All Time

After selling out twenty record-breaking nights at the Manchester Arena (a record previously held by Take That) and with a phenomenal demand for tickets, some being exchanged on various internet sites for over five hundred pounds each, Kay was left with no choice but to tour.

Tickets went on sale today at 11am at eight different UK Arena’s - by 2pm over four hundred thousand seats had been sold. Combined with the two hundred thousand previously sold in Manchester, Kay is now officially the biggest and fastest selling live comedy act of all time.

Kay said “I couldn’t comprehend the demand in Manchester but this is amazing, I’m completely overwhelmed. I’m going to give people a crackin’ night, mind you saying that I better get my head down and write some jokes” quipped the Bolton funnyman.

COLIN REVEL - NEWCASTLE ARENA:
“Absolutely astonishing, wiping all the various records away that were held by Take That, Robbie Williams, Oasis and Kylie Minogue. The records are that of fastest selling show, most number of comedy shows, highest number of ticket sales for comedy and the first artist to do 5 consecutive shows in our 14 year history. It is appropriate that the record was created exactly 14 years since we opened for our first concert!”

PHIL SHEERAN - CARDIFF ARENA:
“5,500 tickets sold out within 3 minutes on the pre-sale – success!! We are sold out at the CIA for all 5 shows in one day which is a record. Huge demand from the queue, which had been forming all night, but they have been serviced…demand totally outstripped supply. Great news for the artist, the CIA and the tour.”

ROB O’SHEA - SHEFFIELD ARENA:
“Peter Kay has been the fastest selling show at our Box Office with record numbers of visitors to our website. We still have a queue outside the building at 3pm!”

NICKY DUNN - BELFAST ODYSSEY ARENA:-
“We have been delighted by the demand for tickets for Peter Kay’s five Odyssey Arena shows. The unprecedented demand for tickets secures a place for Peter Kay in our record books as being the fastest artiste to sell out multiple shows in under 2 hours.”

STEVE WALTON - BIRMINGHAM NIA:
“The demand for Peter Kay tickets has been nothing but remarkable. We’ve witnessed unprecedented demand for tickets with over 3 times as many visitors to our website within the first 5 minutes of going on sale compared with any previous shows at the NIA. All this and the show’s still 18 months away, amazing!!”

KATIE MUSHAM - LONDON O2 ARENA:
“We are thrilled that Peter Kay’s Tour That Doesn’t Tour is now on tour and coming to The O2 Arena. Demand has been absolutely phenomenal and we have seen the highest ever volume of ticket sales in one day for a comedy event.”

KAY MARTIN - GLASGOW SECC:
"It is unusual for us to sell tickets for events so far ahead and though we anticipated a big demand for Peter Kay, to sell out so quickly when he won't be here until 2011 is phenomenal. It's Kaymania in Scotland!!"

TIM BANFIELD - LIVERPOOL ARENA:
“Peter Kay has been the hottest ticket ever at the Echo Arena Liverpool selling 50,000 tickets in one morning – phenomenal. Peter Kay has chosen to tour Liverpool and the public response has been fantastic. There is real excitement in the City and we can’t wait to host what will be an amazing show in April 2011.”

PROMOTER SIMON MORAN - SJM CONCERTS:
“Completely astonishing sales, Peter’s popularity is totally unprecedented – over 400,000 tickets sold in 3 hours.”

Kay, who is currently number one in the charts for a second week with his Animated All Star Band in aid of Children In Need, has smashed his own record for the biggest selling stand-up, which he previously held for his Mum Wants A Bungalow Tour. This is the first time he has returned to stand-up comedy in seven years. He still holds the record for the biggest selling stand-up DVD and autobiography of all time.
