Celebrating 15 incredible years of world-class music and comedy at the Royal Albert Hall to help young people with cancer, Roger Daltrey CBE, today announced this year’s outstanding line-up for the Teenage Cancer Trust shows, running from 23 to 28 March 2015.
The line-up for this very special year of fundraising music and comedy includes The Who, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Paul Weller, Van Morrison, Stereophonics and Kevin Bridges, as well as Wilko Johnson, Johnny Marr and Future Islands.
2015 marks the 15th anniversary of the very first Teenage Cancer Trust show at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000. Billed as ‘The Who and Friends’ that landmark evening saw Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller and Kelly Jones, join The Who on stage for an incredible one-off performance. All of these artists are returning this year, continuing their incredible support and celebrating everything these shows have helped to achieve for young people with cancer.
Teenage Cancer Trust patron and The Who front man, Roger Daltrey CBE, is the driving force behind the shows. The event has grown from that first special night into an annual week of concerts which have raised over £20million for young people with cancer and is now an established highlight of the British music calendar. The shows have played a huge role in the growth of the charity, helping to take the total number of specialist Teenage Cancer Trust units across the country to 28 and to fund nearly 50 expert teenage cancer nurses and youth support coordinators.
From 2000 to 2015, over 200 artists will have performed at the Royal Albert Hall for the charity with nearly 500,000 fans in attendance including over 2,000 young people with cancer.
For every young person with cancer Teenage Cancer Trust supports, there is another they currently cannot. This must change. The charity needs to raise at least £80million in the next five years to help every young person with cancer in the UK have access to the specialist care they provide. The Royal Albert Hall shows will continue to play a pivotal role in achieving this ambitious goal.
The Who make a very welcome return to the Royal Albert Hall following their acclaimed 2010 show when they performed their classic album Quadrophenia. This year the band continue their 50th anniversary, playing huge shows like British Summertime in Hyde Park, so this is a rare opportunity to see them in an intimate venue. Their special guest will be the legendary Wilko Johnson return to the Royal Albert Hall after playing a surprise performance last year with Roger Daltrey.
As previously announced, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds show on Saturday 28 March follows the release of his new album ‘Chasing Yesterday’ on Sour Mash Records on 2 March. ‘Chasing Yesterday’ is produced and written by Noel and follows the huge success of his debut album that has sold over 770,000 copies to date in the UK. This spring will see the band embark on a UK arena tour preceding this very special show for the charity. Special Guests on the evening will be Baltimore’s Future Islands, who won over legions of new fans with that famously compelling performance of critically acclaimed single ‘Seasons (Waiting On You)’ on the David Letterman show and is featured on their album ‘Singles’.
Paul Weller returns to the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 27 March. Paul’s 12th solo album ‘Saturn’s Pattern’ will be released this spring. As with Noel, Paul has supported Teenage Cancer Trust since the first show where he performed The Who classic ‘So Sad About Us’ with Pete Townshend. Paul’s very special guest will be guitar legend, Johnny Marr. Johnny has released two albums, ‘The Messenger’ and ‘Playland’ in two years and has also worked with Hans Zimmer on the film soundtracks of ‘Inception’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.
Opening the series on Monday 23 March are Stereophonics, performing their first gig in over a year since their sold out UK arena tour in 2013. Stereophonics will play some new music to fans ahead of the release of their new album later in the year, a follow up to the hugely successful platinum album ‘Graffiti on the Train’. Since Kelly's initial performance at the inaugural Teenage Cancer Trust show in 2000, Stereophonics have been massive supporters of the charity over the years.
The legendary Van Morrison will perform Wednesday 25 March. One of music’s true originals, as well as a revered back catalogue Van has earned a Brit, an OBE, an Ivor Novello, 6 Grammys, honorary doctorates from Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster, entry into The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and the French Ordres Des Artes Et Des Lettres. He recently signed to RCA and a new album is due in early 2015.
Tuesday 24 March offers a night of uproarious laughs with one of Britain's best-loved comedians, Kevin Bridges. The Glaswegian has been a committed Ambassador for Teenage Cancer Trust since 2010 and is hosting the night before he kicks off his 2015 tour 'A Whole Different Story...’.

The money raised by the shows is invaluable in helping young people with cancer, and in return for that hard earned cash we always strive to put on some very special shows.

Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn appearing together for the first time to sing Blur’s ‘Tender’, Eddie Vedder flying half way round the world to sing one song something he’s done twice for us now, Matt Bellamy from Muse playing the Hall's famous pipe organ, and who can forget the night Suede reformed just for Teenage Cancer Trust after so many years apart. These moments are amplified by the wonderful young people I have met over the past decade and a half. They shouldn’t have to stop being teenagers just because they have cancer. They are young people first, cancer patients second. With their incredible vigour and positivity as inspiration, we aim to keep Teenage Cancer Trust leading the world in cancer care for this age group.”
