Cathal Smyth Debuts solo album with special gigs and art exhibition
An Evening With A Comfortable Man
Wilton’s Music Hall, October 8 & 9, 2014
Cathal Smyth, aka Chas from Madness, will be debuting his solo album, A Comfortable Man, with the Joe Duddell Ensemble, at Wilton’s Music Hall in London on October 8th and 9th, 2014.
After previewing selections from A Comfortable Man at last year’s Festival No 6 in Portmeirion, Cathal will now be performing the album in its entirety for the first time, in the beautiful surroundings of Wilton’s Music Hall in the East End of London - the world’s oldest surviving Grand Music Hall.
The performances will be accompanied by an exhibition of street and contemporary art by some 40 leading artists in the genre. All the work to be exhibited has been created exclusively for the event, in response to Cathal Smyth’s album A Comfortable Man. Participating artists include legendary Dutch graffiti artist Delta, one of the most prolific and notorious London graffiti crews ATG, Mighty Monkey, ELK and leading Israeli street artist, Dede Bandaid, whose work reflects on contemporary events in Israel.
The road leading to A Comfortable Man, the eloquent and heart-rending debut solo album by Cathal Smyth, has been long and winding - though as he likes to say "old dog for the long walk, young pup for the short run".
A Comfortable Man has taken time to mature and a variety of locations - London, the island of Ibiza and a rehabilitation facility in Arizona - have been instrumental in bringing it to life. The process has seen Cathal emerge from one of the nation's most beloved pop bands Madness as a fully formed talent.
